bio
Derek grew up in Baltimore, MD and always enjoyed playing around with the family video camera growing up. At age 15 he began playing guitar and writing music. Years later, while still a musician, he realized he wanted to pursue the visual arts, too. In 2002 he moved to Asheville, North Carolina and in 2006 received his BA degree from the University of North Carolina Asheville. Derek was awarded with a Departmental Distinction in Multimedia Arts & Sciences. While at UNCA, his short film "Addictions" won Best of Show in the video category at the 2006 Multimedia Arts & Sciences show. The show was juried by Joshua Davis. The following year, Derek won Best of Show in video for "The Blight," which was a collaboration with Galen McGee.

Currently Derek resides in Asheville, NC and co-owns and operates Peak Definition Productions with Galen McGee. Peak Definition is a video & photography business that shoots weddings, stage events, TV spots, and more.
